## Norman Wildberger and his work

N J Wildberger is a pure mathematician (PhD Yale University), who has taught at Stanford University, the University of Toronto and currently is an Associate Professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New South Wales, Australia's leading university for mathematics.

He has a wide range of research interests, from harmonic analysis to geometry to number theory to the history of mathematics and is the discoverer of

Norman is a passionate teacher, and has had thousands of students, given hundreds of lectures and dozens of international talks at conferences and universities around the world, and has a leading YouTube channel Insights into Mathematics. He he received the UNSW's foremost teaching award, a Vice Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence.

He has also seriously engaged with the important job of improving the new Australian senior mathematics curriculum, and helping to implement it in an effective way in NSW.

And he also believes that modern pure mathematics is seriously logically flawed. He is one of the world's leading thinkers in the foundations of mathematics, and is moving forward to reposition the subject to make it more solid, rigorous and beautiful. That is what his work these days is mostly all about. An exciting part of that program is the development of the Algebraic Calculus, which will be coming in the next year or two to an online screen near you!

*Rational Trigonometry*, the subject of his best selling book Divine Proportions: Rational Trigonometry to Universal Geometry, available here at this website. This work has led to a lovely new three-fold symmetry in planar geometry called*Chromogeometry*, and a large-scale reformulation of the hyperbolic geometry that began with Lobachevsky, Bolyai and Gauss, now called*Universal Hyperbolic Geometry*.
